DemografiphicProblems of Poland before the Accession to theEuropean Union
Rozwójdemograficzny Polski wyróżnia dzisiaj wiele pozytywnych cech: wydłużanie siężycia mieszkańców, obniżanie się umieralności, szczególnie niemowląt,ale mimo to Polska znalazła się w fazie niekorzystnego rozwojudemograficznego. Ciągle jeszcze poziom umieralności w Polsce jest o wiele wyższy,a przeciętne trwanie życia krótsze niż w krajach Unii Europejskiej, wzrastazagrożenie chorobami nowotworowymi, nasila się proces niekorzystnych zmian wrelacjach międzypokoleniowych itp. Przyczyn tego jest wiele i nasiliły sięone w okresie transformacji.
Książkazawiera opracowania wielu wybitnych autorów przygotowane na podstawie wystąpieńw czasie I Kongresu Demograficznego w Polsce, który odbywał się w okresie 15września 2001 r. - 26 listopada 2002 r. pod głównym tytułem"Polska a Europa. Procesy demograficzne u progu XXI wieku". Kongreszostał zorganizowany z inicjatywy Rządowej Rady Ludnościowej przy współudziale:Polskiego Towarzystwa Demograficznego, Komitetu Nauk Demograficznych PAN, Głównegourzędu Statystycznego i United Nations Development Programme. Patronat nadKongresem objął Prezydent RP Pan Aleksander Kwaśniewski.
Despitethe many positive characteristics: longer lifespan, lower morality (especiallyamong infants), Poland has entered a phase ofdisadvantageous population trends. Still, morality in Poland is much higher and averagelife expectancy much shorter then in the EU countries, cancer hazard is growing,disadvantageous changes in intergenerational relationships are intensifying,etc. There are many causes of such a situation and they have become even morepowerful over the transformation period.
Weoffer the reader a publication comprising works by many eminent authors, basedon their lectures and other statements during the 1 Demographic Congress inPoland, which was held from 15 September 2001 to 26 November 2002, under thebanner "Poland and Europe. Demographic Process at the Beginning of the 21stCentury". The Congress was convened on the initiative of the Governmentalpopulation Council and organized in cooperation with the Office and the UnitedNations Development Programme. The Congress was converned under the auspices ofPresident Aleksander Kwaśniewski.
